Marathon

The Marathon will begin at 9:00 a.m. (EST). This 16 mile Marathon is a tough race designed for experienced marathon paddlers
.

K-1 (men and women) has joined the C-1 (men and women) to become the only two pro divisions. The C-1 class follows the USCA boat specifications.

The course is on a challenging part of the St. Joseph River and will include one short portage at St. Pat's Park toward the end of the race. There are strong current, boils, converging currents, hidden obstructions (rocks!), and many, many strainers to paddle through and around. If the water level is just right, there are a couple of spots with standing waves and several rips. This race requires good technical skills and the stamina to paddle hard for 2 1/2 hours or more.

The racers start at St. Pat’s, go south (upstream) to the Turn-Around Island (across the street from Pinhook Park). They round the island clockwise (this is the only clockwise turn; all others are counter-clockwise!) and go north (downstream) past St. Pat's to the Bertrand Rd. Bridge. They go upstream to the Darden Rd. Bridge, back to St. Pat's. At St. Pat's, they'll get out for a quick portage at the beach, back in at the boat dock and around a buoy, up to Auten Rd. and back again finally to St. Pat's Park.

This will be an exciting race for both racers and spectators. This marathon race is advertised to seasoned racers in all over the country.

BOATS

All boats welcomed. Any boat paddled with a single-blade paddle will be considered a canoe. Any boat paddled with a double-bladed paddle will be considered a kayak.

C-1 Class follows USCA boat specifications.

Memorial Hospital of South Bend
Intermediate Race

By popular demand we've created an Intermediate race for those wanting more of a challenge than our 2-miler and are not quite willing or ready to do our 16-miler. This Intermediate race will be a 7 mile loop race starting and finishing at St. Pat's Park. This race will start at 9:20 a.m..

Due to high water conditions, we have changed the course for this year. A map of the course is found here. This year, the Intermediate course starts at St. Pat's and goes south (upstream) to the Auten Rd. Bridge. The paddlers come north (downstream), past St. Pat's, to the Bertrand Rd. Bridge. They then paddle back upstream to the Auten Rd. Bridge. Finally, they come back to St. Pat's Park for the finish. All bridge and buoy turns are done counter-clockwise.

BOATS

All boats welcomed. Any boat paddled with a single-blade paddle will be considered a canoe. Any boat paddled with a double-bladed paddle will be considered a kayak.
